Practice on your own later
1. Download the two files below, which you will use as sample datasets during this tutorial, and save the files to your desktop:
sharksightings.csv
sharkspotter-beaches.csv
Or...
use these two links, sharksightings and sharkspotters, to access in Google Drive (Chromebook users must do the second method). Once you have the links open, you need to click File>make a copy so you have the file in your drive.
2. Go to Google My Maps and create a new map. You need to be signed into your Google Account. Create new map
a. Click import on the untitled layer (you can title it later)
b. Choose the file sharksightings.csv from your desktop or choose your Google Drive and find the copy of the file
c. When prompted, choose the location column (such as zip code, city or lat/long) first, and then any other column next.
d. Your map will be populated!
e. Add a new layer to your map and follow steps 2-5 with the file sharkspotter-beaches.csv or the copy on Google Drive.
f. Now you have TWO layers.
